Vishay Intertechnology was founded in 1962 by Dr. Felix Zandman, with financial support from Alfred P. Slaner. The company was named after the Lithuanian village where relatives of Dr. Zandman and Mr. Slaner perished during the Holocaust. The company's history began with a single technology comprising two product lines: film resistors and strain gages based on film resistor technology.

By 1985, the former start-up company had become the world's largest manufacturer of such components and embarked on a series of strategic acquisitions to become a full-line supplier of electronic components. Today, Vishay is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductor components and passive electronic components.
